ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST

Liturgy Planning Committee - October 4, 2007

PRESENT: Walt Chura, Cassandra Kiszkiel, Maureen Burger, Roy Bordeau, Anita DiCerbo, Mark DeCerbo, Jr., Eileen Mazur, Fred Simone, Rick Johnson

The meeting opened with a long discussion regarding music for the upcoming holidays.   The folk group leader has informed the Parish council president that the group will not be playing for the Christmas eve mass as there will not be enough members of that group available.  Our organist Roy Bordeau is unable to provide music for that mass as he has a previous commitment.  The folk group from St. Paul the Apostle will be contacted to see if they will be able to provide us with music for Christmas eve,  At this time it is uncertain if SJB folk group will have enough members available to play for the Christmas day mass.  Roy needs to be informed as soon as possible.

The folk group leader has stated they will play at the Thanksgiving Day mass in conjunction with the organ,.  Rick will confirm both of those dates  (Thanksgiving and Christmas Day) with Debby Schaeffer.

It was decided not to have a service on All Soul’s Day, Nov. 2.

St. John’s folk group was asked by Rev. White to provide some music for the ecumenical service that Bethesda House will hold in our church on Oct. 18th.  Music will begin at 6:30.  SJB group declined,  There was discussion regarding music stands and microphones.  Debby will be asked to leave this equipment out after the 10AM mass on Sunday Oct.14th for the musicians that will be coming and providing music for the event on THURSDAY OCT.18th.   It was not decided on how our parish would be represented at this gathering.

There was  discussion regarding our new Today’s Missile  and the Breaking Bread books which we are currently using  The old BB books will remain in the pews.  The new books should be shipped to us shortly,

Roy Bordeau stated that Fr. Carlino reported the diocese will  be sending out notices to parishes that the approved Advent color will now be purple and the color previously used (blue) is not to be used.  Eileen will contact Albany to see if we can get a color swatch to be sure we will be using the proper shade of purple,

Cassandra noted that there are six artificial Christmas trees taking up valuable storage space in the sacristy,.  Fred will see that the trees are removed.

Father Schmidt has stated that he does not think having the St. John the Baptist banner on the altar during Advent is a good idea.  The Advent wreath will be placed in front of the altar table on a pedestal at an angle,.  Cassandra will work on this.

In closing Rick stated  "There was much concern expressed about the fact that there was no representation from any member of the folk group.  It is understood that personal schedules interfere at times, however the work of the Liturgy Committee and the parish must continue.  Decisions must be made"

Next meeting of Liturgy Planning Committee will be on Thursday, Nov. 8th at 6:30 PM
