Thirty-fourth and Last Sunday in Ordinary Time:

Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ the King

Since early summer, when this long stretch of Ordinary Time began, we have been moving toward this great feast of Christ the King. The final words in today’s Gospel, spoken by the dying Jesus to the repentant criminal, are words of assurance for the faithful disciple. “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” Let us praise Jesus Christ our King as we conclude yet another liturgical year, praying fervently that, as Advent dawns, we will be found ready and waiting when the kingdom is fulfilled.
