The Epiphany of the Lord

Sisters and brothers, on this feast of Epiphany the magi come from afar to adore the Christ child. Like them, we have journeyed to this sacred place to witness the manifestation of Christ in word and sacrament. With Christmas joy we lift up our hearts and voices in worship and praise.

PRAYER AND WORSHIP SUBCOMMITTEE FOR LITURGICAL MINISTERS SCHEDULING - Beginning January, 2007, scheduling for the weekly masses on Saturdays at 4:30 and Sundays at 10:00 AM will be handled by Maureen Burger.  Scheduling for these ministries will be done on a three month time frame.  If any of you have suggestions or comments on this new type of schedule, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I am more than fully open to hear all comments and suggestions, I am asking that for any holiday scheduling, please let me know your preference.  Would you rather I make the schedules or leave it as it is which is to ask for volunteers?  As in the past, if the schedule interferes with your personal commitments, simply call another person to be your replacement.  This has always worked in the past and I am sure will work fine for us in the future.  Lynn Lucas will be the backup for scheduling.  You can always reach one of us or call Eileen at the parish center.  We are in desperate need of ministers for the Saturday 4:30 mass.  New members are very welcome.  Thanks to all of you that have such great commitment to St. John the Baptist.

MEDITATION FOR LIFE AFTER CHRISTMAS:

“The mystery of Christmas therefore lays upon us all a debt and obligation to the rest of [humanity and to the whole created universe. We who have seen the light of Christ are obliged, by the greatness of the grace that has been give us, to make known the presence of the Savior to the ends of the earth. This we will do not only by preaching the glad tidings of His coming, but above all by revealing Him in our lives. Christ is born to us today, in order that He may appear to the whole world through us. This one day is the day of His birth, but every day of our mortal lives must be his manifestation, His divine Epiphany, in the world which He has created and redeemed.” Thomas Merton. Seasons of Celebration. New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1950: 112
