Rensselaer County Search and Rescue operates two vehicles - - a 1988 IVECO used as a command post equipped with a 4KW generator, and a 1988 Chevy Suburban equipped with a 40 foot mast used as a quick response unit. Rensselaer County Search and Rescue has communications on multiple VHF High and Low band frequencies along with Cell Phones. Soon we will have communications on 800Mhz when the new Rensselaer County radio system goes on line. We use Motorola, GE, and Kenwood Mobiles and portables. To keep track of the teams, from the command post, we use map and compass along with GPS units. The information is radioed back to the command post. There it is plotted on Paper Topo maps or on a compurtized mapping system as needed. Most of our work is at night so we use head lamps and 5 cell flashlights At remote scenes a 600W portable generator is used with an attached light. Once the subject is located they are treated and transported as needed .Our members use first aid supplies such as backboards, collars, straps, splints along with various other supplies stored on our vehicles. The subject can be evacuated using high angle gear, stokes stretcher, SKED or canvas stretcher depending on the Terrain. |
