Dick's Baseball Page

A premium offered by the Goodwin Champions tobacco company in 1888 includes pictures of "Pebble Jack" Glasscock, shortstop for the Indianapolis Hoosiers, who was nicknamed for his habit of grooming the infield near his position; "Sir Timothy" Keefe, iron-man pitcher for the New York Giants; Mike "King" Kelly, catcher for the Boston Beaneaters (later renamed the Braves), whose daring baserunning led fans to cheer "Slide, Kelly, Slide"; and Fred "Sure Shot" Dunlap, second baseman and catcher for the Pittsburgh Alleghenys (later the Pirates). Keefe and Kelly are in the Hall of Fame.
